Local Art Classes & Painted Portraits
My name is Anthea Durose – welcome to my new website. As you will see after you have browsed, although portraits of people are my chief subject, this is only because I have been commissioned to paint more portraits than anything else. However, I enjoy painting almost any subject; from Landscapes to Flowers to Equestrian or even Classic cars.
If you would like to commission me to paint a portrait of yourself, a member of your family, a family pet or even an ancestral or posthumous portrait, I will be happy to consider it and discuss it with you.
If you live locally in the Ipswich or Colchester area, and think you may like to join my Art Class on Tuesdays please e-mail me using the ‘Contact Me’ page on this website giving me your name and address and telephone number and I will send you further details.
“Dave and I would like to say a BIG thank-you for the lovely painting of Natalie. We were thrilled to bits with it. It hangs in our lounge and looks perfect on the wall just as thought it was meant to be there. I can’t stop looking at it. Natalie really enjoyed sitting for you. She is showing all of her friends the painting. Once again, many thanks”

Commission a portrait
Portrait painting is a passion of mine and is a large part of why I chose to pursue this aspect of painting. Figurative paining is also a passion of mine. As a child I began by painting mainly children. I recall the joy capturing someones essence and likeness of a school friend in the first serious portrait I did and still feel that same enjoyment and reward.
Ipswich portrait commissions
My current portrait commissions come from East Anglia generally but I also have commissions from much further afield. Sittings normally take place in my home studio at Paper Mill Lane Bramford Ipswich.
“Thank-you so much for Camillas portrait. Everyone thinks it is wonderful!”
Daily Life Paintings
Bespoke painting commissions are a regular activity. From equestrian to pets to portraits depicted in daily life situations with your home and landscapes considered and potentially included. I have always enjoyed diversity in the subjects I paint and this has been reflected in exhibitions at The Mineries Art Gallery Colchester, Ipswich Art Society and with a solo exhibition in Dedham Essex.
My Art Training
My art training was initially at the Birmingham College of Art where I trained under B Fleetwood-Walker RA and later I enjoyed Master Classes and individual tuition from eminent Dutch artist Cor Visser.
I will never accept any commission unless I believe I can fulfil your requirements so a sit down to discuss things is a great start.
“Dear Anthea Durose, I just wanted to tell you how very much I am enjoying having your portrait of Eleanor hanging in our house.
Every time I pass ‘her’ I feel she is smiling and speaking to me. There is a mobility about her features which you have completely captured. Thank-you very much indeed”
Ipswich Art Classes
Art lessons have been a staple in my life since my early 20s where I taught art in South African schools where my pupils gained awards at both regional and national level. Now teaching adults, it is very rewarding and a privilege to see them fulfil their artistic potential. My aim is to see them become the very best artists they can be.
Ipswich art classes are available at my resident art studio on Paper Mill Lane, Bramford on the outskirts of the Ipswich area.
